I can still remember the days we were living at Mount Lavinia. PeriAunty and Alex uncle were very kind to us. We cannot forget both of them. She was very jovial. Always she was with a smiling face. Our son Timothy also loved her so much and always insisted to visit their home to play with the aunty when he was small. When she was in New Zealand and Australia, she used to call us and speak to me very often. Whenever she visited Sri Lanka, she stayed with us and she insisted that I should accompany her to meet other relatives. We will be missing her a lot. Our condolences to her children who looked after her with great care during her old age. Let her rest in peace

She was such a nice aunty to me as I used to visit her home when they were in Jaffna and Colombo. Whenever I go to her home during night, she would insist that I should eat something. She was the best cook in our family. Whatever she cooked was so delicious and I always talk about it to my relatives. Not only me, she loved all her nephews and nieces very much. She helps any body in need without expecting any help. That was her special quality. I can still remember her and the uncle (her husband late Mr. Alexander) agreed to give food to one of our old relatives for a long time whose only son had deserted him and was missing for a long time in late 70’s. Even my mother wondered as to how she agreed to take such a big responsibility on her shoulder. A very hardworking lady who was working tirelessly in the kitchen as well as in their small coconut estate as the income of her husband (a Government Servant- Administrative officer, Assistant Government Agent) was not enough for the expenses of a big family specially for education of her children during 70’s and 80’s. Her efforts bore fruits. I know that she loved her five children and her sons-in laws and daughters-in laws very much. She helped to raise her grand children also. Her son- in- law Dr.Jesudas always tells me about her dedication in looking after his children.
For any person there is definitely a birth and a death. People grow old and die one day. That is nature. We cannot expect her to live forever. When bad people die we don’t feel anything, but when such good people die, people would feel sorrow. I saw that in the face of her children and friends at the funeral. As Christians we believe that we can meet our loved again one day. Till then let her rest in peace. She will definitely live in the hearts of all of us till we live in this world.
