Grandad. How proud I am to call you that. A self-made and resilient man who came from so little and achieved so much through determination, hard work and courage. Never one to complain, you set the most incredible example for me and indeed your whole family. The true animal whisperer, your caring and cheekier side was always a pleasure to see as well. I will always cherish our chats- hearing about the highs and lows of your early life and how rightfully proud you were of your farming achievements. A hero in every sense of the word- what you did for your family and indeed this country, will never be forgotten. I love you grandad and will miss you dearly.

What a remarkable man. One of a very special generation. I have just had the privilege of watching Alick's (as we knew him) funeral service on line. Sincere condolences to his family. Anne Small 4th Australian Infantry Battalian A I F 1939_ 1945 Association
