Summer school holidays spent in Scotland when our parents could afford it, and always I would spend as much time as possible in Merkland Street with John, Billy and, later, Anne. Fondest memories of building train sets, going to Millport to look after Ian while Isa and Uncle John went for a drink. Going to Ibrox to watch Rangers. Missing England win the World Cup as we were too busy playing. A time gone by.....and a new life for John in Australia. Clearly loved by those fortunate to know him....and not least by the family who now face the huge vacuum left by his untimely death. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I first remember seeing John while waiting for the bus to school and at that point I didn't realise that he would go on to be such a good friend. He was always so funny, kind, caring and generous and I'll never forget the nights when he would bring round some "damaged" bottles of wine from his shop to our flat and spend a hilarious few hours while teaching me the merits of the various wines. I'll also never forget the weekends in Arisaig with the rest of the crew - such fond memories...
Maggie and Stuart, I'm so sorry for your loss.

I have fond memories of my cousin John and as his big cousin they stretch back to his earliest days. John was a boy with a ready smile, as a man he had a great sense of humour. He was and remained a Glaswegian through and through despite his many happy years in Australia. I will miss his ready smile and warmness - which I thought I would be blessed with for many more years. Rest in Peace John.

Happy memories of growing up with John in Glasgow. Great times never to be forgotten. I had not seen John for many years but I'm very proud to have called him a friend. My sincere condolences to Maggie and the Spence Family and all those lucky enough to have had John in their lives xx

Dear Maggie, Stuart and family. Thinking about you all at this sad time. Have many wonderful memories of spending time with John. A true gent and always good company to be around. It was so good to catch up with John and a few friends in Arisaig last October. Great chat, a few drams and of course John won at cards. A lovely memory indeed.
You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

John was such a close friend from the age of 12 when he moved to my school from the other side of Glasgow - the dreaded North. Over the years we shared so many memories of both the two of us with friends and with our respective families. My whole family is so sad about your loss and will always remember John so fondly.
