TO MEMORY TIMELINE
A photo with Phyllis Aviet, Jules Aviet and Gary Aviet at their home in Perth. Went to visit the Aviet family during a trip to Perth, to celebrate my Uncle, Rene Dragon's (Aunty Phyllis' nephew) 60th birthday. Aunty Phyllis was with her usual warmth and cheer and Uncle Jules told me many stories of his time in the army, he showed me his army awards/heirlooms and his beautiful hand made scrap book in memory and as a tribute to his dear daughter, Charmaine Aviet.

We bought a lemon meringue cake to celebrate her birthday in advance, as her birthday was on 28th June. I am glad that my partner Roshini was able to visit her. Grand aunt Phyllis told us stories of her days as an educator and we also reminisced about her stay overs at our home.

One week ago, my family and I were deeply saddened by the passing of my grand-aunt, Phyliss Aviet (née Dragon) — the youngest sister of my grandfather, Clifford Bernard Dragon, and the last of the five Dragon siblings. With her passing, my grandmother, Frances Millicent Dragon (née De Souza), now remains the last of the ten Dragons — siblings and their spouses. Though Aunty Phyliss was our grandaunt, she was truly like a grandmother to my siblings and me. She treated my mother as her own daughter and often stayed over at our home. We have many fond memories of her — teaching us card games (we’d joke that she ran a “mini gambling den” when she stayed over), playing board games, watching movies, hosting cheese-eating parties, and sharing stories of her youth and of our grandfather in his younger days. She even choreographed a Mother’s Day dance for my sister and me to perform for our mum. Aunty Phyliss was a lifelong educator — she taught at May South Secondary alongside my grandfather and later volunteered her time to teach boys from boys’ homes and even inmates in prison. She even taught my siblings and I English and would test us on our grammar and spelling when we were in Primary School. Apart from teaching, aunty Phyllis also loved to do arts and crafts and would make beautiful hand-crafted cards for my family and I and all her loved ones. Knowing I loved sea turtles, she once made a card with a design of a sea turtle for my birthday. She was truly creative, thoughtful, caring and most of all, loving. On behalf of my mum, dad, sister, and brother, we offer our deepest condolences to Uncle Gary Gary Aviet Gary Aviet and Aunty Sharon Sharon Aviet. Aunty Phyliss is now reunited with her beloved husband, Major Jules Clive Aviet, and their daughter, Charmaine. To Uncle Gary — thank you for your unwavering love and dedication in caring for both your parents. The 12 to 13 years you spent as their caregiver is a testament to your strength 💪🏻 May your soul rest in eternal peace dearest aunty Phyllis and we look forward to playing "Jin Ramee" and eating cheese you with again ♠️♥️🧀

My deepest sympathies to Sharon, Gary and family. I am deeply sorry I couldnt get to see Aunty Phyllis one last time as I developed excruciating pains on sunday. Saw AE CGH, received Inj Tramadol, n have degeneration of my spine. I cannot sit and it hurts to walk. I can only lie down. I/we hve been blessed to hve Aunty Phyllis as my God Mother and to my siblings to have an Aunty who always showed concern for our welfare, spiritual welfare, always sending us special prayers and Holy pictures and praying for us all always. Dearest Aunty Phyllis, I and Toni, too, have been wanting to see you for a very long time I have been caught up with repairs n maintenance of my old house single- handedly and having to move into my new place just 3 months ago and have been beset with so many problems. Most of all, I have been wanting to show you the doll you bought for me on my birthday, some 66 years ago. It is also extra special because Grandma sewed a "baju" for the doll (the doll only had rompers). It was such a fine job that grandma did for the small doll. So it is a very special memory of both, my God mother and my Grand Mother. I will continue praying for you all my days and will be offering masses. Rest in peace, Dearest Aunty Phyllis as reunite with our beloved Uncle Jules. May you enjoy heaven now and forever. Please continue to pray for all us, Aunty Phyllis, like you always do especially during these troubled times n during our times of trials and tribulations. Till we meet again in paradise. All my love, Terry.
