My sincere condolences to Joy and Marlon and family on the passing of my dear sister, and their mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother. May Betty find eternal peace in the company of our mother Annie, and her sisters Phyllis, Francesca (Babs), and Theresa.

Heartfelt condolences on the passing of your mum, and my aunty. Though time and continents separated us, the enigmatic bond of family remained strong. Memories of the past flood back: the demure self-made woman, strong and colourful like the Jacaranda tree. The unique timbre of her voice was always comforting and warm. Aunty Betty will be remembered as a dedicated teacher to hundreds of Woodlands children; they were mounded and guided by one of the best. A woman of compassion, and hearty humour. When last we spoke, she chastised me for my silver goatee, saying it had to go. She wanted to remember only my angel face! If pictures paint thousands of words, then my mother's photo collection attests to a colorful past. Aunty Betty was one of a girl-gang called "The Trio" which included Pam Green-Thompson (Easthorpe), Mary Damon (Thompson) and, of course Francesca (Betty) Thompson (Oakes). In passing, your mother will be joining her old friends; may they have many more moments of girl-gang time. Rest in Peace and many more good times. (A note of correction and apology for mistaking the name of my Aunty Babs...her name was Antonia. There weren't two sisters with the name Francesca. I was having a senior moment and my more senior dad also didn't notice the error.)
