MY SCHOOL CHUM We met on our very first day at Subiaco Infants School, followed by nearly daily contact until our high school days. I grew up in the presence of Maurine’s family (Flanders) with her Mother (Gwen); Father (Arthur); Sister (Joy) and Brother (Ken). So many happy memories … particularly the singalongs around the piano; driving to City Beach over the switchbacks in the summer; riding pillion on Ken’s motor bike … and of course some sad ones over the years. Maurine went to Perth Girls High School while I went to Girdlestone High School, mainly to study Shorthand, Typing and Book-keeping and this resulted in different working careers. The years passed – with Maurine and Cyril, the love of her life, raising a wonderful family. I was fortunate in never being unemployed, travelled overseas on a number of occasions, and finally relocated to my present place of abode in Wodonga, Victoria. While our contacts were not nearly as frequent, we both remained in each other’s thoughts constantly. It has possibly not been a record long-term friendship but it was definitely a loving, long-term friendship. I miss you so, Doreen. dvbassett@westnet.com.au

In memory of a beautiful and caring colleague from Westfield Park Primary days. Maurine was loved by everyone children, staff and parents. Maurine also shared her love of music by giving generously of her time to play the piano at assemblies and support the choir. Maurine also accompanied many high school students in their final year music exams. My daughter was lucky enough to have Maurine accompany her during her voice exam. I attended the service today and was so grateful to be able to pay my respects to such a truly wonderful person. I also enjoyed listening to the eulogies given with so much love and care. Please accept my sincere condolences.
