Love you Karl. I will miss you every day. I can still see you as the cheeky little boy that you were and then you grew into an amazing man loved by many. Rest in peace Karl. Until we meet again. Love you xo

It’s been a while between drink's mate but I will always hold memories. I hope that you’re in a calm place now . Thinking of your partner Jackie, family and friends. Rest easy mate.

Fitzy we spent some of the best days of my life working and hanging out together on days off. We had such great laughs. There was never a dull moment when you were around. You’re the funniest bloke I’ve ever met. You were a great family friend too and a wonderful uncle figure to Sam and Alex. It was great to reconnect over the last few months. We shared our thoughts of love and respect for each other and I’m so glad we had that opportunity. I love you like a brother Karl and I always will. The legacy you leave behind is something you should be so proud of. You made us laugh, you made us cry. You are a fine example of exactly what a man should be. Loving, caring, honest and true. Sometimes humble, sometimes outspoken. But always at the right time. And a man of your word. Go forth with love my brother. Your whip when I get there mate.

If the ultimate goal is to love and be loved than Karl not only succeeded he showed us how to live it and celebrate it to the very end. Congratulations Your love made Jackie and the boys very happy. On behalf of all of us that never met you I’d like to thank you for that. In sympathy Mrs Jackie Fitzgerald and deepest condolences to all family and friends.

Brother Man! You were my introduction to Navy. Why I stayed for so long after that, I’ll never know. You had a heart of gold and would do anything for a mate. Both you and Pam became my family. I know wherever you are now you’ve got a beer and are simply walking around calling everyone you meet a mother f$#%ing p!$$ head. Love you brother.

Mate, the world is a better place for having you in it and a sadder place now you have left us in body. You will always be with us in spirit... Fair winds my friend.

Fitzy was my first kellick on my first posting after Navy training, what an introduction to the real Navy that was! I learnt a lot and not all of it was in the competency log, he was a true sailor of the time. I will always remember Fitzy as larger than life, a storyteller with a genuine heart. Jokes and stories aside that big man with a bald head and baby face has left us a rich legacy. Fair winds and following seas, shipmate. We have the watch. May your beautiful family rest knowing how you loved and fought for them. My deepest sympathy's, a life too short.

I served with Wayne Fitzgerald in VENDETTA ‘75 & at CAIRNS early 80’s & suspect Karl is Wayne’s son & when I was CO IPSWICH I took Karl & other cadets from TS ENDEAVOUR on a patrol to Torres Strait & they loved it so I’m not surprised many of them including Karl joined the RAN. Wayne, a Supply Officer, sadly passed away in WA some years ago. If anyone has a contact for Karl & Wayne’s families I’d appreciate being advised on MOB: 0409 847023 EMAIL: stickeymaws@hotmail.com in order that I can send my condolences.
